Prayer - Feast of Corpus Christi

Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of the Eucharist. You give yourself to us in such a special way, so we can be close to you, know your love, and carry that love into our daily lives. As we remember your Body and Blood this Corpus Christi, help us to understand just how much you care for each one of us. When we receive you in the Eucharist, remind us that you are with us always, guiding us, helping us, and loving us. Help the St Columba’s Catholic community be filled with your kindness. May we look after one another, forgive quickly, and always try to be like you. Stay close to us as we walk with you every day. Amen.

The Feast of Corpus Christi is a special day when Catholics celebrate the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist (Holy Communion). It reminds us that Jesus is truly present in the bread and wine we receive at Mass. On this day, we give thanks for the gift of the Eucharist and remember how much Jesus loves us, so much that He gives Himself to us to be close to us and to help us grow in love.

Sacraments - 2025

In consultation with Fr Carl, it has been decided that St Columba’s will support children and families through Sacraments on a rotational basis.

2025 – Sacrament of Confirmation - (Year 5 and 6 students)
2026 – Sacrament of Eucharist (Holy Communion) with the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation) as part of the preparation to Holy Communion – (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students)

In 2025, the Sacrament of Confirmation is planned for 10:00 am on Sunday, 26th October. Bishop Michael McKenna will preside over the Sacrament at Our Lady Catholic Church.

To prepare and support children and families, the school is planning a Confirmation retreat for all the primary students at St Columba's to be held on Friday, 19th September. The retreat will be a fun-filled day centred on the Sacrament of Confirmation and heavily linked to the Religious Education curriculum.

Please contact the school for any further information.

We look forward to walking this journey of faith with you and your family.

Semester Reports

Teachers are currently working on student reports for the semester. These will be available to parents on Compass on July 4.

Learning Statements are used to report on student achievement relevant to Focus Areas, Outcomes, skills and knowledge. In Years 1-6, these Learning Statements are reported using the grading A-E lettering. The definitions of these letters, taken from the Common Grade Scale, are located on the front page of the report for parents and carers and included below. In Kindergarten, the three-point scale of Working Towards, Working At and Working Beyond is used.

Common Grade Scale

The scale describes performance at each of the five grade levels.

A - The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.

B - The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.

C - The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.

D - The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills.

E - The student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in few areas of the content and has achieved very limited competence in some of the processes and skills.

To provide further information for parents and carers, teachers identify a student’s Learning Strengths and Learning Goals through the provision of report comments. These comments are designed to supplement the Learning Statements and areas of achievement and support all stakeholders to understand where their child’s learning is now and what they need to do to move their learning forward.

Effort and Application

Staff draw upon various pieces of evidence and observation throughout the semester to determine the consistency of student effort in each Learning Area.

  • Outstanding - the student demonstrates outstanding effort and application to all aspects of this Learning Area.
  • Commendable - the student displays very good effort and application to most aspects of this Learning Area.
  • Satisfactory - the student displays satisfactory effort and application in some aspects of this Learning Area.
  • Inconsistent - the student displays an inconsistent application.

Behaviours for Learning - the categories for this area are:

  • Consistently
  • Developing
  • Needs Improvement

Staff Spirituality Day

Staff from St Columba's joined with Joseph’s Eugowra, Manildra and Molong to learn more about Jesus and the heart of his message, Hope. This central message of Jesus not only strengthens our faith but also shows us how to help make the world more like the one Jesus dreamed of – full of love, justice, and peace. Even though this is a big challenge, we’re not alone. We have Church teachings, our skills, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to help us. We’re motivated by the hope of creating a better future for our students, their families, and the generations to come, where everyone and every creature can thrive.

E.M.M.Y. Athletics Carnival

What a fantastic day of friendship, sportsmanship, and fun as St Columba's Yeoval joined with St Joseph's Eugowra, Manildra, and Molong for the annual E.M.M.Y. Athletics Carnival!

It was inspiring to see students from all four schools supporting one another, giving their best in every event, and building lasting friendships.

A big thank you to our wonderful parents for transporting the children to and from the event. Your support makes days like this possible!

New School Counsellor

Matt Walls has just started with Centacare and will be providing counselling services to three primary schools; Molong, Manildra and Yeoval and his home base will be the Orange office. Matt is a skilled carpenter with a dream to build his own home someday in the future. For now, he is focused on developing a career in the psychology/counselling space. Matt is married and has recently become a Dad for the first time with their 7 week old son, baby Arthur. When not on Daddy duty, Matt enjoys being outdoors in nature and loves a good story, whether it be by book or film.
Welcome Matt!

Attendance

As our teachers have been writing reports, and we have been looking at our attendance as we enter our absent day numbers. There is no surprise, the link between higher attendance rates equalling better learning outcomes is evident. The list of benefits for students with good attendance rates is endless and provides a more comfortable learning experience for the student. There are a few things that I would like to bring to your attention regarding attendance:

  • All absences must be explained to the school in writing via email or through the Compass portal. All unexplained absences are viewed by the Diocesan Office. It is so important that the children attend school every day unless there is sickness or exte nuating circumstances.
  • Our new attendance system on the Compass Program does not allow for ANY unexplained absences. Please remember to notify the office and class teacher via email or Compass. This also applies if your child is late for school. If your child is late to school or needs to leave during school time, they must go through the front office to be signed in and out.
  • Our goal, set by the CEDB and NSW Government, is to have all students attending school more than 90% of the time.
